Insert and Test E-match & Talon/Clip-On Igniter Clips

The firing module is equipped with 18 separate firing cues that support the firing of multiple igniter types. For the current max firing values please see the continuity clarified document.

Important! By default, the firing module is configured to fire e-matches with a 100ms pulse (1/10 of a second) for each cue. You can also configure the firing module to fire 2 seconds per cue.

E-match Mode - For 100ms pulses, press SYNC and CH- at the same time. “0.1” will display briefly on the channel display.

Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clip Mode - For 2s pulses, press SYNC and CH+ at the same time. “2.0” will display briefly on the channel display.

You can configure each module separately and can use them interchangeably in the show. For example, you can configure two modules for E-matches and 1 module for Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clips.

Insert E-match/Talon/Clip-on Igniter clips

Insert the E-matches or Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clips by folding the end of the wire in half and inserting directly into the cues by pressing the red and black terminals. Tug lightly on the wire to ensure there is a firm grip. The wires can be placed interchangeably into the red or black terminals. To avoid shorting of wires and to create a better connection, fold any long-exposed leads in half before inserting.

Test E-matches/Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clips

The COBRA 18M enables you to test continuity directly from the firing module or Controller.

  • From the firing module – To test the E-matches/Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clips from the firing module, press and hold the TEST Button on the firing module. While pressed, the corresponding Cue #’s LED will display GREEN if the E-match or Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clip is functional. If the corresponding cue # LED does not display green, then the E-match or Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clip is faulty and it should be replaced.

  • From the Controller - To test the E-matches/Talon/Clip-on Igniter Clips, change the channel on the controller to match the module's channel using the CH+ and CH- buttons. The cue LEDs on the 18R2 will light up green for cues that have good continuity. If a script is loaded, the 18R2 will show a red LED indicator light for all cues without continuity that are scripted for the show. If no script is loaded, no red light will be indicated.  Cycle through all modules to check for continuity by continuing to press the CH+ or CH- button.

If there are multiple modules set to the same channel with different cues wired, the 18R2 will show a solid green LED for each cue. If there are multiple modules on the same channel with mixed continuity, the 18R2 will display a flashing green cue LED to indicate that one of the multiple modules on that channel does not have continuity.

To differentiate between multiple modules on the same channel, the controller assigns a unique address to each module during the sync process. To see the address, press and release the TEST button on the module and the address will display. Each module will display a unique address. On the 18R2, repeatedly pressing the TEST button will cause it to cycle back and forth between the modules on the selected channel, showing the address and the continuity for each.
