Auto Channel & Cue User Guide

The Auto Channel & Cue feature makes it quick and easy to assign channels and cues to your show. After setting your event times and adding position information to each event, you're ready to use one button click to assign channels and cues to your events automatically. Channels are grouped by position, and cues on the same channel are assigned from 1-18 in order of time. Once a channel is full, if you have additional events on the same position, the next available channel is used automatically.

Getting Started

When using Auto Channel & Cue, events on the same position will be grouped together on the same channel(s). Events that don't have a defined position assigned to them will be addressed together as one group. There are several ways you can get started.

Using the sidebar: From the sidebar, click Auto Channel & Cue to open the Auto Channel & Cue window.

Using the right-click menu: You can also right-click anywhere on the event table to open an additional menu. From there, click Auto channel & cue... to open the Auto Channel & Cue window.

Keyboard shortcut: You can open the Auto Channel & Cue window by using the keyboard shortcut Alt + S on Windows or Option + S on Mac.

Selecting which events to assign

Selected events: This option will address any events you currently have selected. You can use this option if you want to address only one portion of the show.

Entire show: Address all events in the whole show.

This position: Address all events that share the defined position of the selected event. If you have multiple events selected, all defined positions of the selected events will be addressed. For example, if you have multiple events selected and are using three different defined positions across those events, this option would address all three of those positions.

Select what to do with existing assignments

Fill blanks only: Address events that do not currently have channels and cues assigned. Events with channels and cues assigned retain their current assignments.

Overwrite all: Clear all events in the selection and address again from scratch. This option will skip any events that are locked.

Starting channel and cues per channel

By default, assignments will start at channel 1, with 18 cues per channel. These can be changed using the + and - buttons. These are automatically capped to the real limits of the firmware version selected in the show settings, preventing invalid entries.

Handling Conflicts

If you already have some channels and cues assigned, and later want to make changes, Auto Channel & Cue will automatically detect if the changes you're trying to make would end up making two positions share the same channel. In this case, a warning appears, and this channel is skipped, rather than guessing.

If channels and cues are missing when exporting your show, you will see a pop-up identifying the errors, with the option to open Auto Channel & Cue, automatically set to address the entire show.

Locking and Clearing Assignments

As you work on your show, you may find that you need to change channel and cue assignments. You can lock specific events to prevent them from being touched, and you can also reset events, clearing their channel and cue assignments so they can be reassigned.

Locking events

Locked events will not be changed when using Auto Channel & Cue. This can be useful if you have a specific section of the show that you've finished addressing, and want to prevent any changes to. Events without a channel and cue assigned cannot be locked. There are two ways to lock events.

Using the right-click menu: After selecting the events you want to lock, right-click anywhere on the event table to open an additional menu. From there, click Lock channel & cue.

Keyboard shortcut: You can lock selected channels and cues by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + L on windows, or Command + L on Mac.

Clearing channels and cues

You can clear one or multiple events to remove their channel and cue assignments. This can free up those channels and cues, and get events ready to be re-addressed.

To clear events, after selecting the events you want to clear, right-click anywhere on the event table to open an additional menu. From there, click Clear channel & cue.
