Understanding Event Time and Sub-Event Time in COBRA Show Creator

This document explains the difference between Event Time and Sub-Event Time in COBRA Show Creator, how STEP events impact these times, and how to edit timings effectively using the event table and waveform.

1. What is Event Time?

Event Time is the specific time assigned to each event within the COBRA Show Creator software. This time indicates exactly when an event is scheduled to occur on the show’s timeline and is displayed on both the event table and waveform.

For example, if an event is set to occur at 2 minutes and 30 seconds in the show, the Event Time will display as 02:30.00. This time is independent of other events and provides a fixed reference for each scheduled action in your show.

2. What is Sub-Event Time?

When a STEP event is added to your show, the Sub-Event Time column appears, showing the time of each event relative to its preceding STEP event. The Sub-Event Time resets to 00:00.00 each time the software encounters a new STEP event, creating a fresh reference point for timing the following time-based events under that STEP event.

This setup allows the show to proceed linearly overall, but each STEP event introduces a new timing frame for the events that follow it. The Sub-Event Time for each event reflects its timing relative to the last STEP event, which is how it will be recorded in the COBRA script file. This feature makes it easier to understand event intervals when editing and viewing the sequence on the waveform.

3. Can I Edit the Sub-Event Time Values Directly?

Yes, you update the Sub-Event Time values directly in the event table. This feature allows you to adjust the time difference between an event and its associated STEP event without needing to modify the Event Time or STEP event timing, providing more flexibility for fine-tuning event sequences.

Tip: You can also adjust Relative Time by dragging and dropping the event pill in the waveform event drawer. This visual method makes it easy to modify event timing directly on the timeline, allowing you to see the impact on the sequence instantly.
