A Channel is assigned to a module by the operator and can be any Channel between 00-100 for firmware 5.1 and lower or 00-200 for firmware 6.1 or higher. Multiple modules can be assigned to a single channel.
An Address is a unique identifier assigned by the controller to each individual device (i.e. modules, audio boxes, etc.). These are assigned when the devices are synced to an 18R2 and will remain the same until synced with a different 18R2 no matter which Channel it is placed on. This is what makes the Address a separate entity from the Channel. You can think of the address as a unique serial number for a device, and this is how the 18R2 is able to differentiate between multiple devices on a Channel.
Addresses start at A00 and increment up each time a module syncs to the controller. Different from an 18M, when the controller is synced to a 36M or 72M; the 36M skips two addresses, and the 72M skips four addresses. This is because the 36M and 72M both have cues in banks of eighteen, with the 36M having two banks of 18 cues, and the 72M having four. So while the 36M only has one Address, it will take two Address slots, and the 72M will take four.
Example: The last device synced to a controller was an 18M which received address A002. When syncing a 36M next it will be assigned Address A003, and syncing a 72M after that will give the 72M an Address of A005. Anything synced after the 72M will have an Address of A009.
On the COBRA Controller you can review each device on a Channel by navigating to the desired Channel using CH+ or CH- and then pressing the TEST button to cycle through the Channel's assigned device Addresses. Keep in mind this is to review Addresses and device continuity only. This method cannot be used to cycle through different devices on a channel to fire them.
Another benefit of the difference between Channels and Addresses is that when checking whether modules are armed from the 18R2 the display shows any Addresses of modules that still have their key in the Test position.
