COBRA collaborates closely with leading security experts to ensure that the COBRA system remains compliant with the most current industry standards in security and encryption. Following recent consultations with these specialists, we have introduced an advanced security mode that is presently in early beta testing. This new mode substantially strengthens the encryption protocols employed within the COBRA network, offering an additional layer of protection for users. However, we advise utilizing this advanced security feature exclusively in environments with elevated security requirements.
To switch the system's security mode to Enhanced Security, press the Channel + button while powering on your module or controller. To revert your COBRA device to Basic Security (Bas), press the Channel - button during startup. For the Audio Box, adjust the security mode by pressing the Audio Test button while powering on the device. If the Audio Box is currently set to Basic Security, this action will switch it to Enhanced Security, and vice versa. Note that on firmware version 7.1, the Audio Box does not display the current security mode; this functionality has been incorporated in the 8.0 firmware release. For devices running firmware 8.0 or later, it is necessary to hold the TEST and SYNC buttons in addition to CH+ or CH- to change the security mode. It is critical that all devices in use operate on the same security version to guarantee proper functionality.
Note: Hardware 18M modules do not support the Enhanced Security mode. To determine whether your 18M module is hardware version A or B, please refer to How do I tell which hardware version I have?
