The COBRA Agent is a lightweight background application that runs quietly in your computer's system tray or menu bar. Its primary purpose is to allow COBRA software — including COBRA Show Creator (CSC) and COBRA Show Operator (CSO) — to connect with your COBRA hardware and perform functions that go beyond the limitations of a web browser.
Why the COBRA Agent is Needed
CSO is not a standalone program. It runs as part of CSC within your web browser. Web browsers are designed with strict security and technical limits (called a browser sandbox), which prevent direct communication with devices like your COBRA remote via USB.
The COBRA Agent bridges this gap, enabling direct system-level communication so your computer and COBRA hardware can interact seamlessly.
How It Works
The COBRA Agent:
- Detects and connects to the COBRA 18R2 or other compatible hardware via USB.
- Processes and stores data from the connected COBRA controller.
- Communicates this data back to the CSC/CSO browser interface in real-time.
Current Role
Today, the COBRA Agent is primarily responsible for:
- Enabling CSO to display device data and diagnostics through the browser.
- Handling communication between your COBRA controller and the COBRA software.
- Supporting the secure transfer of information needed to run shows and monitor equipment.
Future Enhancements
As COBRA continues to develop CSC and CSO, the COBRA Agent will play a larger role. Planned improvements include:
- Offline Support: Store shows directly on your computer for reliable operation without an internet connection.
- Improved Printing: Enhanced support for printing event labels and other show documents.
