While slats provide additional capabilities to a firing system, there are some downsides that need to be thought of first.
Here are some of the pros and cons of using slats with your firing system.
Pro:
- Ability to easily mirror a position at a lower cost than additional modules
- Keeps modules out of the line of fire as you can use slat cables to get slats close to fireworks and keep modules at a distance
- Ability to pre-wire your fireworks
- Slats offer mounting options allowing you to place the slat in a location otherwise difficult for a module
- Ability to place slats where there is no line of sight to the operator
Cons:
- Harder to calculate maximum igniters on one cue over longer distances
- When performing a chase sequence slats provide little benefits as they mirror the cues on the host module
- You are now using wires, reducing the benefits of a wireless firing system
- Could complicate continuity checks depending on what type of slats are used, series or parallel.
