COBRA 6M, 18M, 36M & 72M modules support the most common professional and consumer igniters—just match your firing mode below.
At‑a‑Glance Compatibility
Igniter type | Module firing mode | Pulse length | Typical use case |
---|---|---|---|
Professional electric match (e‑match) | E‑Match Mode (“0.1”) | 0.1 s | Precision pyro‑musicals & series/parallel |
MJG Firewire Initiators (Available in speaker wire and Quickplug format) | E‑Match Mode (“0.1”) | 0.1 s | Same electrical spec as e‑match |
Talon® / clip‑on igniters (Available in speaker wire and Quickplug format) | Talon Mode (“2.0”) | 2.0 s | Single cakes, fountains, low‑budget shows |
Tip: Hold SYNC + CH + for ~2 seconds to toggle modes.
• “0.1” on the display = E‑Match
• “2.0” on the display = Talon
Detailed Igniter Notes
E‑Match & MJG Initiators
- Wiring: Up to 9 parallel e‑matches on a 14.8 V Li‑Po battery (ideal conditions).
- Why choose it: Lightning‑fast firing and precise timing make it the go‑to for large, synchronized shows.
- Best practices: Use series/parallel combinations to optimize cue counts; always bench‑test your exact cable lengths.
Clip-on Igniter
- Pulse: 2 s, higher energy per cue.
- Why choose it: Great for simple, low‑cue displays where precision timing isn’t critical.
- Limitations: Supports fewer parallel igniters (up to 4 on Li‑Po); not recommended for very long series chains.
Other Igniters & Custom Setups
Compatibility ultimately depends on the voltage and current your igniter requires versus what the module can supply (9 V alkalines, 14.8 V Li‑Po, or 24 V external). For:
- Nichrome wire squibs,
- Specialty caps drawing >2 A, or
- Any custom igniter not listed above,
please email help@cobrafiringsystems.com with your igniter’s resistance (Ω) and firing‑current (A) specs. We’ll confirm compatibility or suggest the safest alternative before your next show.
