Yes, the COBRA Audio Box can send SMPTE to firing systems and DMX controllers. Simply load the SMPTE Timecode MP3 onto a USB drive, insert it into the Audio Box, and connect it to another system. To ensure the SMPTE starts with the scripted show, you will need to add the SMPTE track name to your script. For more check out Configure Script to Support the Audio Box
However, while the Audio Box can transmit SMPTE, it cannot replace the need for the 18R2 to control your COBRA system with SMPTE. To fire your show using a COBRA controller and modules, you still need the SMPTE upgrade.
When using an Audio Box to feed SMPTE into external systems and/or DMX controllers there are some creative ways to leverage the audio file based on your show's needs.
For example, you don't necessarily need to use the same music on the SMPTE formatted audio file being plugged into the Audio Box as it isn't the audio being broadcast to the audience. This can be handy if you want to use a click-track (essentially an audio metronome) to track alignment, or have an audio file with timed instructions such as "Fire alternate cue in 3- 2- 1". In these cases you'll want to ensure the audio file is formatted correctly to use stereo and use either the headphone or RCA connections to split the channel outputs, or dedicated channel XLR connections if your Audio Box has the dual left/right balanced upgrade.
