Syncing (pairing) ensures your firing modules only respond to your 18R2 remote. Follow the steps below based on your firmware version. If you’re unsure of the version, it briefly appears on each device during startup.
Step 1 – Power On
- On the 18R2, insert the key and turn to ON; wait for the channel display (e.g.,c00).
- On the module, insert the key and turn to TEST and let it complete its startup.
- Confirm the module shows its current channel.
Step 2 – Enter Program Mode (Firmware Dependent)
Firmware 3.0.3 or Higher
- On the 18R2, press and hold SYNC for ~3 seconds until the display shows P; release.
- On the module, press and hold SYNC for ~3 seconds until it shows P; release.
Firmware 3.0.1 or Earlier
No separate program mode is required—proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 – Sync the Devices
Firmware 3.0.3 or Higher
- With both devices showing P, press and hold SYNC on the 18R2 and the module at the same time until the SYNC indicators blink rapidly; release.
- The module will reboot automatically. The remote will still show P, this is to speed up the syncing process when syncing of multiple modules is needed.
- Turn the 18R2 key OFF, then back to ON to exit program mode.
- After restart, both SYNC LEDs should blink—indicating a successful sync.
Firmware 3.0.1 or Earlier
- Press and hold SYNC on the 18R2 and the module simultaneously.
- Keep holding until the module’s SYNC LED blinks and the module restarts; release.
- If you see Er3 on the module, you held SYNC too long—restart the module.
Step 4 – Confirm Sync & Check Communication
- When synced, the module’s SYNC LED blinks along with the remote’s SYNC LED.
- Use the remote in TEST to cycle modules and view their signal values. To learn more on checking signal see Checking Signal Strength.
- For best reliability, aim for strong signal (closer to 0 and better than −75).
